A Bitch Rant (WARNING - MI-5 SPOILERS BELOW)

Once again, you have been warned.

What the bloody hell!?!?

I swear I'm cursed, it has to be me. I pissed off a gypsy who also happened to be a television muse.

Every time I finally get really into a show they either take it off or make way too many changes. Bad changes, bad like the second generation Duke boys bad. Baaaaaaaaaad.

I FINALLY get totally and completely into MI-5. The same characters I found stiff and dull at first became interesting and gripping. I watched the whole first two seasons in one day it was so intense.

Here I was thinking I was saved. Saved from the horrid new DA on Law & Order. Saved from Amy being pregnant on Judging Amy. Saved from Jack mooning over his wife and kids. Saved from everyone screwing everyone on Third Watch (where the hell are the fire scenes?). Saved from CSI's new tactic of skipping any sort of intelligent plot for the grossout factor. Saved from the horrific thought of Jimmy Smits as President of the USA. Saved from the disasters that were the shows I so dearly loved.

HA! Ha, I say! Ha! How dare I believe that I was safe in couch potato glee! HA!

Two episodes into the new season they get rid of Tom, the lead agent. Wait! Come back! I've just gotten to like stiff ole Tom and you're taking him away! Alright, at least he's not dead and Adam is acceptable, I can begrudgingly
take Adam.

But nooooooooo, we're not done. We took Tom and now we're coming for Zoe. What what WHAT!?!??! Zoe botched a mission? Zoe is going to jail? Zoe is going to Chile?? What is this, where's my warning? My time to prepare? My time to get over losing Tom? What will Danny do without Zoe, that whole undertone was awesome? Bring back Zoe!!!!!!!

In a state of lament I went to the IMDB forums to read what people had to say. And there it was. The final blow to my fragile viewing psyche. More than this obsessed fan is able to stomach.

Danny, the most likeable one on the show and the last of the originals. Danny, to be killed off in the season finale, done in by terrorists as he saves Adam's wife. Danny, dead.

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

And this hasn't even aired yet and already I'm gahhh-ing.

I'm not starting over with all new agents, this is worse than all of the above combined. This is worse than nonstop Full House and Who's the Boss reruns.

Poof! Poof! Poof!

And then there were none.

  1. I started watching MI-5 after your initial review of the series.  At first, it seemed pretty dry and slow, but then it really kicked in.

I have only seen four episodes to date.  The first involved a book written by a past enemy that implicated a current diplomat of collusion with terrorist (geezas!  they were snoggin in the halls in that episode).  Next was one involving the IRA discovering an arabic group of preparing to bomb a nuke facility, and using the information to be able to barter an attack of their own (geez, was this a season finale ep or what?  the whole issue with his house being locked up was tense).  After that I saw the episode where the female agent was sent into a school to find a hacker that got into their mainframe.

All the episodes were quite good, and the british certainly have a flair for killing off people and showing more gratuitous nekkedness and sexuality than we are used to here (and you can tell where they cut scenes for censors).

Unfortunately, I have no clue where the episodes go in continuity or by season, so I dont really know which season i am in.

Hopefully I will be able to catch more episodes.

I don’t get as irritated by staff changes to shows, I watch a lot of shows that do it fairly frequently, (x-files, ER, La Femme Nikita, etc).  I will reserve judgment til I get the chance to see the episodes in the future.  Thanks for suggesting the show, I like it.
