Starting Over - Fact One, I’ve Peed on Frogs

I'm starting over, let's see how far I make it this time.

Fact One: I have peed on frogs.

Not this particular little guy, he was hanging out on the side of the house not too long ago. Cute little thing, I love frogs and toads.

When I was a kid away at Camp Mataponi (holy mother of mary, when did they get so pricey?? $9300 for a summer camp?!?!?!) they took us on overnight camping trips here and there. Usually they took us to camp grounds with some sort of toilet but this one time we were in the middle of the Maine woods with nothing but pre-dug holes in the ground.

Three of us had gotten up to pee, it was dark and the flashlights only did so much. We were more concerned with checking where we were walking than looking into the holes we were supposed to pee in. We got down to business and a few seconds in I heard my friend Staci scream like the devil had just showed himself to her. She was screeching "IT TOUCHED ME, IT TOUCHED ME" and she bolted back to camp with her pants around her ankles. My other friend and I finished peeing and after shining the flashlights around, decided she was imagining things.

Then something brushed up against my ankle. I looked down and there they were. Frogs. Many many MANY tiny little frogs jumping en masse from out of the hole we had just peed in. Tiny wet frogs or perhaps they were toads, that I don't know. Lisa started crying immediately with all the zeal a 10 year old can muster. I was thoroughly disgusted but at the same time I found it kind of funny and I started giggling like a maniac.

That was how the counselor found us when we failed to return after Staci's hysterical run back. Lisa in hysterics and me sitting on the ground next to the hole trying to wipe tiny frogs with leaves.

I never went on another camping trip that didn't include toilets in the immediate vicinity.
